| Obverse description | At center-right, a portrait of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) in full royal regalia is set against a lilac and purple guilloche underprint enclosed by ornate Thai decorative borders. To the left, a kneeling Apsonsi celestial figure vignette accompanies the Garuda emblem, above Thai script inscriptions giving the bank name and denomination, with two signature lines at center-left. A commemorative overprint in Thai script at the lower margin records the date 24 มิถุนายน 2512, marking the inauguration of the Bank of Thailand's banknote printing works. |

This note is a standard circulation 5 Baht of the ninth series, distinguished solely by a commemorative overprint applied to mark the 1969 celebrations of the King's 42nd birthday — an auspicious age in Thai belief, representing the completion of three twelve-year astrological cycles. The overprint itself was the event; the underlying note was already in circulation.
Thomas De La Rue had held the Bank of Thailand printing contract continuously since the early postwar period, making this a routine production run by a long-established commercial relationship rather than a specially commissioned piece.
