Thailand's postwar return to civilian-style currency design after the Japanese occupation period involved a quiet but deliberate reassertion of royal and national imagery through notes contracted to Thomas De La Rue in London — a relationship that stretched back decades and resumed almost immediately after 1945. The P#70 5 Baht belongs to the first substantial postwar series, issued under the government rather than the Bank of Thailand, which wouldn't assume full central banking responsibility until later reforms.
Watermark-only security was already considered minimal for the period, even by regional standards. De La Rue's printing quality on this series is generally reliable, though the cotton substrate is known to brown unevenly in tropical storage conditions.
