La Alquería del Gamal was a rural cooperative based in the Axarquía comarca of eastern Málaga province, and this note belongs to a small wave of locally-issued paper scrip that circulated in parts of Andalusia during the late 1980s — a period when certain cooperative and alternative-economy movements in Spain experimented with complementary currencies as tools of economic self-sufficiency.
