| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate tughra (royal monogram) of Amir Amanullah Khan rendered in ornate calligraphic style, flanked to the upper right by a small Arabic inscription reading 'Al-Ghazi' (the Victorious). The Afghan solar year date ۱۲۹۹ appears below the tughra in Eastern Arabic numerals. The entire design is enclosed within a finely detailed wreath of laurel and oak branches tied at the base with a ribbon, with the numeral ۵ (five) positioned at the apex above the wreath. |

| Additional information |
Amanullah Khan introduced the amani as part of a sweeping post-independence monetary reform following the Anglo-Afghan War of 1919 — a direct assertion of fiscal independence from British India's monetary orbit. The gold coinage was issued in limited quantities and circulated primarily among the merchant elite and court, never reaching ordinary commerce in meaningful volume.
Fr#29a distinguishes this from the slightly earlier Fr#29 striking, a difference documented in die alignment and edge treatment rather than design.
