The Star of David mint mark on this issue distinguishes it as struck at the Jerusalem Mint, which Israel established in 1966 specifically to bring domestic coin production under state control. Prior to that, Israeli circulation coinage had been farmed out to the Royal Mint in London and to the Utrecht Mint in the Netherlands.
The 1971–1972 date range corresponds to a transitional production period before the agorot series was rendered largely obsolete by inflation through the late 1970s.
