The mint name Esfāhān (Isfahan) and the AH date 1142 appear in the lower register. The entire design is enclosed within a prominent beaded border, with floral rosette ornaments filling the interstices between the lines of text. |

The central legend opens with the Shahada — 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God' — followed by the enumeration of all twelve Imams of Twelver Shi'ism from Ali through to Hasan al-Askari and ending with the name Muhammad (al-Mahdi). The text is arranged in multiple sweeping curved lines filling the entire field, with decorative floral elements punctuating the composition. An outer beaded border frames the design, consistent with Safavid hammered coinage convention. |
