Uzbekistan's 5,000 som note from 2021 sits in a denomination that had become genuinely necessary — inflation had eroded the purchasing power of lower values to the point of near-irrelevance for daily transactions. The country's redenomination history is recent enough that many Uzbeks still remember the 1994 som replacing the transitional coupon currency, and the 5,000 value would have been unthinkable at introduction.
Cotton substrate is consistent across the current Uzbek series, sourced domestically — Uzbekistan remains one of the world's largest cotton producers, and local fiber in the paper stock is a deliberate choice, not an incidental one.
