The 5,000 Sk was the highest denomination issued by Národná Banka Slovenska during the Slovak koruna's relatively short lifespan — the currency ran only from 1993, when Czechoslovakia dissolved and Slovakia introduced its own notes, until 2009, when euro adoption ended the series. At face value, this note represented a meaningful sum in everyday Slovak commerce, and high-denomination notes in this series saw genuine circulation rather than sitting idle as collector pieces.
