Obverse description Typeset Notgeld issue printed in dark blue on cream paper with a light guilloche underprint carrying repeated denomination figures. A decorative ornamental border frames the central text field, with a vertical left panel bearing the denomination in Gothic script. At the top, the serial number appears in red within a pointed cartouche flanked by arrow-shaped ornaments. The denomination 'Fünf Millionen Mark' is set in large bold letterpress type, followed by the redemption clause text, the date 'Schwerin, den 22. August 1923,' and the issuer name 'Mecklenburg-Schwerinsches Staatsministerium,' accompanied by a circular red official seal and multiple manuscript signatures of ministry officials.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in dark blue on cream paper and enclosed within a simple ruled border with corner ornaments. At centre, the quartered coat of arms of Mecklenburg-Schwerin is printed as a heraldic vignette. Flanking the arms are two columns of Gothic-script text: the left column states the legal tender obligation for all state and municipal cashiers within the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, while the right column sets out the counterfeiting penalty under §§ 146 and 149 of the Imperial Penal Code. A vertical right panel repeats the denomination 'Fünf Millionen Mark' in Gothic letterpress.
