| Vorderseitenbeschreibung | Yellow-ochre and black letterpress notgeld on paper, with a fine guilloche border of interlocking wave patterns and ornamental corner squares framing the entire face. A detailed vignette of the Flender shipyard at Lübeck-Siems occupies the background, rendered in yellow underprint and showing cranes, dockside structures, and vessels under construction. The denomination '5000000' appears in decorative cartouches at the upper left and right, while the issuer's name in bold Fraktur script and the value legend 'FÜNF MILLIONEN MARK' in large bold capitals dominate the centre, above the payment clause and a handwritten authorisation signature at the lower right. |

| Rückseitenbeschreibung | Plain cream-coloured reverse with a simple black letterpress border of interlocking ornamental scrollwork, the denomination '5000000' repeated in diagonal banners at each of the four corners. The centre carries three lines of Fraktur text stating the note's acceptance by Lübeck banks and businesses, flanked above and below by small decorative floral ornaments. The obverse text is faintly visible in show-through, and no pictorial vignette is present. |

Brückenbau Flender A.-G. was a Lübeck-based steel construction firm — bridge-builders, not bankers — that found itself issuing emergency currency during the catastrophic inflation of 1923. At the five-million mark denomination, this note was already obsolescent within days of printing; the Reichsmark reform in November 1923 rendered the entire notgeld system worthless overnight. Max Schmidt was a local Lübeck printer with no particular prestige in the notgeld world, which makes the inclusion of a watermark here a minor surprise — most industrial-issuer emergency notes of this period dispensed with security features entirely.
