| Opmerkingen |
By 1991, Peru's inti had collapsed so thoroughly that this note — worth roughly one US dollar at issue — was already near-worthless within months of printing. The inti had replaced the sol in 1985 as an anti-inflation measure; six years later it was itself being replaced by the nuevo sol at a conversion rate of one million to one. A denomination of five million units is not monetary ambition — it is the arithmetic of a failed currency in its death spiral.
The Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, Rome's state printing house, produced the series. A watermark is the only security feature, modest even by the standards of the period.
