The heading 'Aushilfsschein der Stadt Altona' appears in Gothic Fraktur script along the upper margin, with the denomination 'Fünf Milliarden Mark' boldly rendered in large red Fraktur letters across the centre field. A diamond-shaped lozenge vignette to the left carries a vertical denomination inscription, flanked by two embossed circular municipal seals; the date 'Altona, den 25. October 1923' and the issuing authority line 'Namens der Stadt Altona' appear in the lower half, above four manuscript facsimile signatures.
