正面描述 Uniface letterpress note in blue-grey tones, with the denomination 'Fünf Milliarden Mark' in large Gothic blackletter script at centre, surmounted by the header 'Gutschein über' and flanked by ornamental geometric vignettes at each upper corner. A four-line text block below the denomination states the terms of acceptance by all Bremen state treasuries, with validity referencing local newspaper announcements. The lower left carries a circular official seal of the Finanzdeputation with two manuscript signatures, the date 'Bremen, den 20. Oktober 1923', and a serial number at lower right.

备注

Bremen's Finanzdeputation issued this note at the height of the hyperinflation collapse, when municipal and regional authorities across Germany were authorized to produce their own emergency currency — Notgeld — to keep local commerce functioning as Reichsbank notes became worthless faster than they could be printed. By late 1923, five billion marks would barely cover a tram fare.

Carl Schünemann was a Bremen-based printing and publishing house, not a specialist security printer. That provenance matters: the note was produced quickly, locally, with whatever capacity was available. Schünemann printed both sides in Bremen, so there is no ambiguity here about place of payment versus place of production.
