Obverse description Central field features the arms of Hamburg — a turreted castle gate — supported on either side by two rampant lions facing inward, rendered in high relief with finely detailed manes and musculature. Above the shield, a radiant orb emits rays in a sunburst pattern. Below the shield, a scroll cartouche bears the denomination '48 SCHILL SPEC' along with the engraver's initials 'O.H.K.' The surrounding legend reads MONETA NOVA HAMBVRGENSIS, distributed across the upper arc of the coin in bold Latin characters.
