Reverse description The central field depicts the enthroned Virgin Mary seated upon clouds, holding the Christ Child on her right arm and a sceptre in her left hand, surrounded by a halo of six six-pointed stars above her head in a semicircular arrangement. The composition is rendered in the Italian baroque devotional tradition characteristic of Genoese coinage. The circular Latin legend ET • REGE • EOS • ('and rule them') appears along the upper periphery, with the date and denomination — the year and • L • 48 • — distributed in the lower field and along the lower border.
