Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle on a square klippe flan, three heraldic shields arranged in trefoil fashion: the upper-left shield bearing horizontal barry stripes (Austria), the upper-right shield charged with diagonal bends and six-pointed stars (Breisgau), and the lower central shield bearing three oval charges (Breisach city arms), the latter flanked by the divided denomination inscription XL to the left and VIIII to the right in Roman numerals. The date 1.6.33. is inscribed in the upper field above the shields, separated by stops. A small rosette ornament appears at the centre where the three shields converge.
