Paraguay's 1975 gold issues were produced under Alfredo Stroessner, whose 35-year dictatorship ran from 1954 until his ouster in 1989. These commemorative pieces were minted largely for export and collector sale rather than domestic circulation — hard currency was the point, not patriotic numismatics. The regime used such issues to generate foreign exchange income, a common tactic among cash-strapped authoritarian governments of the period.
KM#185 is part of a broader 1975 commemorative series; the 31.90g weight places it squarely in the one-troy-ounce-adjacent category favored by international bullion-adjacent collector markets of the 1970s.
