Reverse description The denomination 42 SOLS is boldly rendered in two lines at the centre of the field, enclosed within an open wreath of two large palm-like fronds that rise from an ornate tied base of acanthus scrollwork. At the apex of the wreath, a radiant IHS christogram within a circular medallion serves as a crowning device, reflecting Geneva's Protestant tradition. The date 1831 appears in the lower exergue, flanked by the mint master's initials L and F with two decorative stars. The peripheral legend POST TENEBRAS LUX — the motto of the Genevan Reformation — encircles the composition, separated from the beaded border by a raised rim.
