| Reverse description | The reverse displays the denomination in bold characters occupying the central field: the numeral '4' accompanied by an equals sign or fraction bar denoting the half-reis component, above the word REIS in capital letters. The design is stark and utilitarian, reflecting the practical nature of this low-denomination copper issue struck for circulation in Portuguese India. A rudimentary border of short radial lines or denticles surrounds the field on at least part of the periphery, consistent with hammered Goa Mint coinage of the João VI period.
