备注

The Banco de España's 1862 emission belongs to a period when the institution was consolidating its monopoly over Spanish note issue following the Bank Law of 1856. The 4000 Reales denomination — nominally equivalent to 40 Duros — was a high-value instrument, effectively outside everyday commercial use and aimed at merchant and treasury settlement.

Reales de vellón as a unit were already anachronistic by 1862; Spain would formally adopt the Peseta system in 1868. Notes denominated in a currency soon to be abolished were subject to mandatory conversion, and surviving examples from this series are scarce partly because redemption was thorough.
