Reverse description The reverse presents a finely detailed portrait bust of Diana, Princess of Wales, facing slightly left and rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. She is depicted wearing a tiara and pearl drop earrings, her characteristic swept hairstyle faithfully reproduced with delicate engraving. A beaded or jewelled collar is visible at the truncation. The memorial legend IN MEMORY OF PRINCESS DIANA curves along the upper and right periphery, with the date of her passing 31 AUGUST 1998 incorporated within the surrounding inscription.

Additional information

Zambia's pattern coinage from the late 1990s occupies a peculiar corner of numismatics — pieces struck for proposed issues that were either rejected, modified before release, or produced in tiny quantities as proofs of concept for the issuing authority. This piece dates to 1998, the year following Diana's death in Paris, when mints and licensing agents flooded the commemorative market with proposals. Many never cleared approval.

The Pn5 designation confirms pattern status — not a regular or even a standard commemorative issue.
