| Additional information |
The International Year of the Child was declared by the United Nations for 1979, but Thailand's commemorative program lagged the occasion by two years — not unusual for piedfort issues, which were produced speculatively for collectors rather than timed to events. Piedforts, struck at twice the standard planchet thickness, exist outside normal currency production entirely and were never intended for circulation.
KM#P2 is among the scarcer entries in Thailand's gold piedfort catalog. Mintages for these issues were deliberately restricted, and surviving population data across third-party grading services remains thin.
