| Obverse description | A classical oil lamp (Aladdin-style lucerna) rendered in fine detail occupies the central field, its flame rising from the left spout and its handle extending to the right. The country name BRASIL arcs along the upper rim in bold Art Deco lettering, with the date centered immediately below. The denomination 400 RÉIS is displayed in a recessed panel at the bottom of the field, flanked by decorative dots, with the engraver's monogram WT incorporated into the legend. The overall design reflects the geometric Art Deco style characteristic of Brazilian coinage of the 1930s. |
