| Reverse description | A large ornate Portuguese royal crown dominates the centre of the field, rendered in fine Baroque detail with arches, pearls, and a cross pattée at the summit, resting on a cushion. The date, flanked by pellets, is inscribed in the lower central field beneath the crown. The circumferential Latin legend IN HOC SIGNO VINCES ('In this sign you shall conquer') runs around the periphery, a motto of Constantinian origin adopted by the Portuguese Crown for its gold coinage. The overall design is bold and well-centred, consistent with the milled coinage produced at the Vila Rica Mint. |
