This piece belongs to Spain's "Genios de la Pintura" series, which paired European Renaissance masters in a single commemorative issue — an unusual editorial choice that placed Holbein the Younger alongside Ghirlandaio despite their working in different countries and decades apart. Ghirlandaio ran the Florence workshop where a young Michelangelo trained; Holbein spent his most productive years in the English court of Henry VIII, effectively becoming the visual record-keeper of Tudor power.
