| Beschrijving voorzijde | Struck on a square klippe flan with clipped corners, the obverse displays a crowned interlaced monogram of Amsterdam in the centre field, rendered in a crude hammered style characteristic of siege coinage. Below the monogram appears a cartouche bearing the date 1578 and the denomination mark XL (denoting 40 stuivers). In the upper corner, a small punch mark reading PG — the initials of the mint master or guarantor — is applied separately, confirming the coin's authorised emergency issue status. |
