背面描述 Elaborate crowned coat of arms composed of manifold quartered fields within a decorative baroque cartouche, with the central escutcheon bearing the Cross of Savoy. The shield is encircled by the collar of the Order of the Most Holy Annunciation (Ordine della Santissima Annunziata), and the Latin legend surrounding the composition enumerates the ruler's additional royal and princely titles.

附加信息

Charles Emmanuel II was thirteen years old when he nominally assumed rule of Savoy in 1648, with his mother Christine of France serving as regent until 1663 — meaning this 1656 piece was struck under effective French regency control, during a period when Savoyard fiscal policy was deeply entangled with Parisian interests. The 40 Scudi denomination itself was an instrument of prestige rather than commerce; no ordinary transaction required 132 grams of gold, and these were produced for diplomatic gifts, treasury transfers, and the theater of dynastic power.

Survivors are rare in any condition. The dies required for a coin of this module wore quickly and were not always re-cut with consistency.
