Reverse description An armillary sphere occupies the central field, rendered in bold relief with clearly delineated horizontal bands and diagonal great circles representing the celestial equator and ecliptic — a traditional Portuguese imperial symbol. No mintmark is present. The sphere is depicted without a stand, centered within the coin's field. The surrounding peripheral legend is separated from the central device by a reeded or grained rim, and the whole composition is characteristic of the large-module copper coinage struck for Brazil under Maria I.
