Obverse description Central field features the crowned Portuguese royal arms — a shield bearing the five quinas (escutcheons) of Portugal — flanked on either side by the numeral '20' rendered in large, bold characters denoting the original face value, the whole composition enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A crown surmounts the shield at the top of the design. The circular Latin legend runs along the outer border, and the date 1761 appears prominently in the lower field beneath the shield.

Reverse description Central field depicts a large armillary sphere — the emblematic device of the Portuguese Empire and symbol of navigation — rendered with clearly delineated meridian bands and equatorial rings, with a small terrestrial landmass visible at centre. The sphere is surmounted by a decorative cross and enclosed within a plain inner circle. The circular Latin motto legend PECVNIA.TOTVM.CIRCVMIT.ORBEM runs along the outer border, with the Bahia mint mark 'B' present in the legend. The overall design is characteristic of the colonial Brazilian copper coinage struck under King José I.
