| Reverse description | Central field depicts a large armillary sphere — the emblematic device of the Portuguese Empire and symbol of navigation — rendered with clearly delineated meridian bands and equatorial rings, with a small terrestrial landmass visible at centre. The sphere is surmounted by a decorative cross and enclosed within a plain inner circle. The circular Latin motto legend PECVNIA.TOTVM.CIRCVMIT.ORBEM runs along the outer border, with the Bahia mint mark 'B' present in the legend. The overall design is characteristic of the colonial Brazilian copper coinage struck under King José I. |
