Reverse description The reverse of the host coin features an armillary sphere at the center, a prominent symbol of the Portuguese overseas empire, flanked by decorative elements. The surrounding legend PECVNIA·TOTVM·CIRCUMIT·ORBEM (Money goes around the whole world) encircles the central device in Latin script. The design is characteristic of the coinage struck for Portuguese Guinea and Angola under José I in the mid-eighteenth century. The fields show wear consistent with circulation prior to the application of the countermark.
