| Obverse description | Flat, unadorned field bearing a multi-line Arabic calligraphic legend in the Ottoman tughra-influenced style, filling the entire coin face. The inscription reads the royal invocation of Sultan Mahmud Khan with the regnal prayer 'May he be victorious,' accompanied by the numeral 20 (denoting the regnal year). The legend is executed in bold, deeply impressed strokes characteristic of hammered Ottoman provincial coinage. A granulated or dotted border ring encircles the field, typical of Tripolitan billon issues of this period. The planchet is irregular in shape, as is common for hammered coinage of the Regency. |
