Obverse description Central field dominated by the ornate tughra of Sultan Abdulaziz, rendered in calligraphic Arabic script with characteristic interlaced loops and vertical shafts. A decorative floral spray appears to the right of the tughra, serving as the distinguishing design element of this type. The denomination in Eastern Arabic numerals (٤٠) appears in the lower field below the tughra. The overall composition fills the flan with minimal border ornamentation, consistent with mid-nineteenth century Ottoman Egyptian coinage.
