| Beschrijving voorzijde | Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Emperor Justinian I facing, depicted in the imperial military tradition. The emperor holds a globus cruciger in his right hand and bears a decorated shield in his left; a cross appears to the right of the bust in the field. The portrait is rendered in the frontal Byzantine style characteristic of sixth-century Carthaginian mint issues, with bold, somewhat stylized features. The obverse legend encircles the bust, proclaiming the emperor's full titulature in Latin. |
