A cross surmounts the M at the top of the field, while the officina letter S (Secunda, second officina) appears beneath. The mint signature CAR, identifying the Carthage mint, is placed in the exergue. The bold, somewhat provincial execution of the letterforms is characteristic of the Carthaginian workshop during the reign of Justinian I. |
