| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing right diademed, draped, and cuirassed imperial bust of Justinian I, depicted in three-quarter profile with characteristic late antique stylization. The emperor wears a pearl diadem and military cuirass, with a chi-rho monogram or cross device prominently displayed on the breast. The portrait is rendered in the formal, hieratic manner typical of Carthaginian mint production under Justinian, with the legend disposed around the periphery of the flan. The obverse field is frequently weakly struck at the margins owing to the hammered technique and irregular flan preparation. |
