Reverse description Large Greek numeral M (denoting 40 nummi) prominently centered on the field, flanked on the left by a six-pointed star and on the right by a cross potent, both serving as officina marks. A cross finial surmounts the apex of the M, and a small decorative element appears at its base. The mint signature NIKM appears in the exergue below a plain exergual line, identifying the Nicomedia mint. The entire design is enclosed within a plain linear border, consistent with the standard follis type of the early Byzantine period.
