Obverse description Right-facing diademed bust of Emperor Anastasius I, draped and cuirassed, depicted in the late Roman imperial tradition. The diadem is adorned with pendilia descending from the temples, and the cuirass is visible at the shoulder with a paludamentum fastened at the right. The effigy is rendered in a somewhat stylized manner characteristic of early Byzantine coinage, with a dotted border encircling the field. The obverse legend runs clockwise around the bust, reading D N ANASTASIVS P P AVG.
