| Beschrijving voorzijde | Typeset Gutschein printed entirely in blue ink on cream-white paper, with the denomination presented as the large bold numeral '40' flanked by the word 'Heller' on each side beneath the heading 'GUTSCHEIN über'. Vertical ornamental borders composed of stacked guilloche-style lozenge motifs and ruled lines frame both lateral edges, enclosing a centred text field that carries the issuing authority, redemption deadline, anti-counterfeiting warning, and the countersigning official's name in descending order. |

Schwödiau — today Svodov in the Czech Republic — was a predominantly German-speaking village in the Sudetenland, and this 40 Heller Notgeld note is a product of the acute small-coin shortage that plagued the successor states of Austria-Hungary in the immediate postwar years. Austrian municipalities of all sizes were authorized to issue emergency money during this period, and the volume of local issuers was staggering — thousands of communities printed their own, most in very small runs.
Josef Schilhuber's signature as the authorizing official is the primary identifying anchor for this piece; without it, authentication against counterfeits or later reproductions is difficult. The 40 Heller denomination is among the more unusual face values in the Austrian Notgeld series.
