40 Heller Brandenberg

Brandenberg is a small Tyrolean village in the Inn Valley, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities during and after World War One, it issued its own emergency paper currency — Notgeld — to address the collapse of coin circulation caused by metal hoarding and wartime requisitioning. Wagner in Innsbruck was a regional commercial printer, not a specialist banknote firm, which explains the relatively modest production quality typical of Tyrolean municipal issues in this series.
