Brandenberg is a small Tyrolean village in the Alpbach valley, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities during the First World War, it issued its own emergency small change — Notgeld — when coins disappeared from circulation almost overnight after 1914. The Wagner press in Innsbruck handled a significant volume of these municipal commissions across Tyrol, producing notes for communities that had no means of printing locally.
