Obverse description Laureate head of Napoleon I facing left, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style. The portrait is signed DROZ F. on the neck truncation, with the cursive initial of the engraver Tiolier (Tr.) also present below. The peripheral legend NAPOLEON EMPEREUR. runs along the upper rim in Latin capitals. The field is smooth and unadorned, framing the imperial effigy with austere dignity characteristic of First Empire coinage.
