Obverse description	A boldly modelled lion's head facing left in high relief dominates the centre of the field, depicted with jaws open in a roar and a full flowing mane rendered with fine detail. The circular legend AFRIQUE CENTRALE, separated into two arcs by hyphens, runs around the periphery. The engraver's initial 'R' appears discreetly below the lion's neck at the base of the design.
