Brunei marked forty years of currency independence in 2024 — the Brunei Currency and Monetary Board was established in 1967, two years before full independence from Britain, specifically to issue a national currency interchangeable at par with the Singapore dollar under a Currency Interchangeability Agreement that remains in force to this day.
