Obverse description Printed in dark ink on plain woven silk, the design is contained within a rectangular border of foliate and geometric ornamental work, with grain or wheat stalk vignettes flanking the central text panel on each side and decorative motifs at the upper corners. A wave-and-scroll guilloche band runs along the lower border. The central panel carries multi-line inscriptions in Chinese characters and Arabic script indicating the denomination and issuing authority, with the numeral 40 rendered in large characters to the right.
Obverse lettering 通行 四十文 民國拾貳年
Reverse description The reverse presents the unprinted face of the woven silk substrate, showing only the natural pinkish-red tone of the fabric with the textile weave clearly visible. No printed design, inscription, or vignette appears on this side, consistent with the production method typical of Chinese local silk currency issues of the early Republican period.
