Reverse description Central denomination numerals '40' in large, bold characters occupy the upper portion of the field, with the word BATZEN inscribed beneath in a smaller but prominent font, separated from the mint mark below by a horizontal rule. A wreath of oak branches, tied with a ribbon bow at the base, frames the entire denomination, its branches sweeping upward on both sides to meet at the top of the design. The mint mark letter S (for Solothurn) or BA (for Basel) appears below the horizontal rule within the wreath. The field is otherwise plain, and the design is contained within a plain border with a milled edge.
