| Obverse description | A panoramic bird's-eye view of the city of Worms dominates the central field, depicting the townscape with its cathedral, towers, walls, and buildings rendered in fine detail. Above the cityscape, a crowned oval cartouche bearing the civic arms of Worms is flanked by the initials W. D. V. W. (Worms Die Viertel Worms), arranged symmetrically in the upper field. The outer legend in two concentric rings reads VORMATIA METROPOLIS VANGIONVM S IMPERII CIVITAS LIBERA and INSIGNIA TREDECEMVIRORVM INCLYTAE REIPVBL WORMATIENSIS, identifying Worms as a free imperial city and referencing the arms of its Council of Thirteen. The engraving is executed in a highly skilled early seventeenth-century Germanic style with strong perspective and architectural precision. |
