Obverse description Large elaborately quartered coat of arms of the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg, surmounted by multiple crowned helmets bearing crests including a crescent, a lute, and other dynastic devices, all flanked by ornate acanthus leaf mantling. The denomination numeral '4' appears at lower left within the mantling, with mintmaster initials 'R' and 'B' flanking the base of the shield, and the date '1685' inscribed at the bottom of the field. The circumferential Latin legend reading 'D·G·RUDOLPH·AUGUSTUS DUX BRUNS·ET LUN·' runs around the periphery, identifying Duke Rudolph August by the grace of God.
