| Obverse description | Central field features the crowned interlaced monogram 'CL' (for Christian Ludwig) within a laurel wreath. Surrounding the central device is an elaborate arrangement of nine heraldic shields representing the various territorial arms of Brunswick-Lüneburg-Celle, each surmounted by a crown. The circular Latin legend reads 'SINCERE ET CONSTANTER' with the date 1654 and denomination indicator '4' appearing in the lower portion of the field. The milled edge border frames the entire composition, which is rendered in the bold, deeply engraved style characteristic of large German multiple thalers of the mid-17th century. |
