Obverse description Armored equestrian portrait of Duke Augustus of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel facing right, the duke depicted in full military attire with a plumed hat, mounted on a prancing horse shown in profile to the right. The denomination numeral '4' appears in the field beneath the horse. A landscape with fortifications is visible in the exergue. The circumferential legend in Latin reads around the full perimeter of the coin, identifying the ruler and his titles.

Reverse description Elaborate crowned multi-quartered coat of arms of the House of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, surmounted by a central imperial orb and multiple crested helmets bearing elaborate mantling. The shield is supported by two rampant lions as heraldic supporters, and displays numerous dynastic quarterings including lions, eagles, and other heraldic charges. The circumferential legend, which is the ducal motto, runs around the entire border, with the mintmaster's initials 'HS' and the date appearing in the legend.
